Family Homesteads are the most comprehensive idea for the positive development of Australia. The allocation of free land to willing Australians will prompt rapid expansion of new industries, providing significant long-term employment, while increasing both the quality and quantity of our valuable export commodities.
The unique advantage of our large, lowly populated landmass presents unparalleled opportunity for growth in the cultivation and manufacture of natural products for export. Done correctly, we can simultaneously improve and restore the natural environment. In the future, our thriving ecology will offer the world’s best tourist experiences, as well as providing valuable education and support to less developed countries.

Family Homesteads can produce goods for both the nourishment of their residents and for sale to markets further afield. Each Family Homestead is a self-sufficient entity, requiring no expensive inputs. Instead, the Homestead creates value using sun, rain, seeds, soil, and the human ingenuity of its inhabitants.
A mixed garden of high-value products – honey and bee products, medicinal herbs, tree nuts, pressed oil, berry wine, woven fabric, rare and heirloom varieties – yields 100 times more value than an equivalent hectare of cattle pasture. Production on a family homestead is dense and varied, with different plants fruiting each month.

The additional labour required to establish such a varied garden is offset by the feelings of responsible stewardship that a person has for their own homestead. Inspired to create the best possible living arrangement for their family, to be loved by their children, creators of Family Homesteads will work joyfully, with perseverance and care. A properly designed garden, arranged optimally and with maximum diversity, is self-fertile and requires little labour for its upkeep.

The beautiful and calm surroundings of a family homestead offer the best possible conditions for the mastery of hand crafts, creative pursuits and other forms of high-value manufacturing. Streamlining co-operative supply chains will encourage small producers and let family businesses easily access large export markets.
The positive energy and clean natural environment of Family Homestead settlements will support new research and development projects, unencumbered by the pollution and noisy distractions of cities. The pleasant atmosphere will attract foreign visitors, offering business opportunities for tourism operators and providers of therapeutic retreats.

Australia should step boldly into our natural future, where every citizen can build their own life and home. As a federation of states, Australia’s yearly exports should not be in the hundreds of billions, but in the trillions of dollars. Family Homesteads offer a simple, long-term way of achieving this goal, with a fairer distribution of the spoils. We must think together, carefully, how to make this idea succeed!
Legislative support is necessary to designate suitable zones for the development of family homesteads, and facilitate the registration of new plots. A simpler and more accessible permit process is also necessary for those who wish to build their own house on their family homestead.
